The new Sylgawnan tree seed has been planted in the inner Midway area.
Raifer has approached Rollin Hand to see if he and his network can assist finding information about Town #11.
LIllianne has gone to a local horse vendor to buy a prospective Light War Horse.
It had been a month of training for a number of the party but now the next trip was set to go. They purchased a number of healing potions to support their trip and doled them out to all. They would be escorting the next wagon train of supplies from Midway to the McMurtry farm and then head out on a few planned stops and a little more mapping. Gwyn approached Hachi to borrow the spear bearing the Seneca tribe colors given that visiting them was part of their trip plans. Once organized they headed out the south passage. It slowly became clear to the group the path between Midway and Daedelus has begun to become a rather well traveled road. The path now becoming a trodden road. They also passed a few other groups heading north. Maybe more interesting was their encounter with guards from Daedelus during the last day of the 6 day segment of the trip.
Once in Daedelus Furion noticed an obvious increase in the presence of law enforcement. The group was stopped by one group of guards and questioned as to their intentions. They were polite and professional and also asked to search the wagons. The guards passed along the information that there has been an increase of security due to bandits and infiltrators harassing the city. They also noted the odd situation of some rumored tribal war to the south where the group was planning to go. They had no more details than the vague rumors. The guards directed the group to the main station and Capt Galabetti if they wanted more.
They checked in to the local inn and headed to the police station. The Captain had time to meet with them and they were able to share quite a bit of scuttlebutt. The White Ninja had attempted to infiltrate the city, which alarmed the businesses and spurred the police to increase their presence in response. The town called up all reserve members to walk a patrol in an attempt to fend off the invasion. Sharing they were also gathering intelligence on the White Ninja as part of their trip they agreed to stop on their return to share what they will have learned. Detente achieved they headed back to crash for the night.
But the night was not uneventful. In the middle of the night Morgana was awakened by the sound of something working the lock on the door. With nothing but her sleeping clothes on she evoked a druids Flame Blade and waited, trying to wake Rennala. The door slowly opened and a smoke bomb was tossed in to the room. The assailant had no idea the Sleep poison would have very little chance of effecting the room of Elven women. A head peeked around the corner of the door revealing what could only be described as a White Ninja clad face, Morgana responded with a strike from her conjured weapon. The intruder backed out, slammed the door behind and raced away down the hall. Rennala had finally awakened Jade and the ladies were up for a chase. Morgana tried to follow the intruder only to find they were far quicker and were down the hall, the stairs and bolting for the exit. Rennala raced to the room the men were in slamming on the door to wake them.
The intruder had escaped but they were now on alert. The local guards were called. A detailed investigation of the room, hotel and surrounding area was conducted. Morgana relayed her story of the events. Gwyn stepped outside to check their wagons with a Find Traps. The ruckus interrupted their sleep so severely they decided another night of, hopefully, rest would be prudent. With luck, the second night was quiet and they headed out the next morning.
It took a little over a day to travel across the gap to the forest where they were met by sentinels of Lord Evanston. The group produced their provenance and were allowed to pass through without incident. It took 2 days to traverse the forest and emerge on the plains headed to the farm. Two more days of travel and the caravan reached their destination. It had been 6 weeks and it was clear the repair crew had made significant progress in their efforts. They group stayed a night and headed out the next day.
The group headed north east towards the Risen Plains. They now made better time not slowed by the oxen pulled supply wagons. But on the second night their sleep was interrupted by a rustling approaching in the direction of Jack and Gwyn. They turned and b egan waking the party members. Jade and Tyrade were the first up and moved to intercept what was revealed to be large but slow moving beetles. Tyrade used Kozmo's Vanish to disappear and position himself for an attack. Jade let a Fireball go striking two of the four. Tyrade followed with two strikes from concealment that squashed the first of the bugs. But one of the bugs had now engaged Morgana and scored a devastating blow. It used its pincers to bite, slicing off her right arm just below the elbow.
Most of the group was now up and engaging in the battle. Ben stepped in to defend Kenny as he evoked a Prayer and followed with a Spiritual Whip as Jade misfired on a Magic Missile. Furion issued an Icy Missile and Tyrade continued his rampage with his Elven Thin Blades. This offset the bad luck Rennala and Gwyn were experiencing as they fumbled their weapons. There were originally 4 of the bugs. One was already down as Furion and Tyrade did what the brothers do, each killing another. The last one was dispatched by a group effort leaving them to deal with the devastating blow suffered by Morgana. Gwyn cast Heal spells to secure her from further bleeding out and Tyrade cast a Preserve to keep the severed arm fresh.
Where to go now was a problem. They decided there would most likely not be a cleric of sufficient power to restore the limb in Englehome. The next closest place was the Dwarven kingdom of Oolm, but none of them had ever been there before and there were no dwarves in their group. But this was their decision so they veered a bit more north and made for Oolm. The trip took 4 days whereupon they were stopped by dwarven patrols, questioned and led to the kingdom under guard. The entrance to Oolm was through a large cavern. The ground level had an area where they could leave the wagon and horses. From there they were led up in to the mountain. Up would be an understatement. They passed many levels of developed mountain area, moving through the various strata of the dwarven populace, eventually coming to a pair of large, ornately inscribed doors. Here the guards left them. Furion could read the runes and identified this as a Church of Berronar. They entered only to realize a service mass was underway, so they quietly stepped to the back, out of the way to wait. Several members of the group dropped a donation in the collection plate.
The service ended and the officiate led the followers to the door and greeted them as they left. This took some time for the church to empty whereupon they presented their case, asking for assistance. The church elder was willing but shared such an act requires significant compensation as the ritual can be costly and they were not sure how well received it would be as they were not followers. The price was set at 10,000 gold. Tyrade produced 2 large gems asking if this would be enough. The cleric quickly assessed them as sufficient. They discussed a number of issues and in passing the group asked about the dwarven agents Armin and Hammer and if they were in the city. The cleric was shocked to hear them bring up these two. After discussing their interaction with these two and their role freeing Sudalon the cost for the service was cut in half in recognition of their assistance to their dwarven brothers.
Preparations were completed, the time needed for the cleric to cast the spell passed and the Regenerate was successful, restoring Morgana's arm. The ordeal completely knocked her out. Gwyn offered special prayers of thanks to his god for allowing him to witness this action. They were taken to accommodations at a nearby inn and spent the night in perhaps the nicest rooms any of them have ever slept. They next day they had their complimentary breakfast and headed down to their wagon and horses, ready to continue their journey
