Oolm is a great place to visit... again...

The day began as the party left Oolm heading towards the Risen Plains. Horses rested, party members at the ready, wagon stocked. Out of the Oolm protected area they pushed off. But is wasn't more than a couple of hours out before a strange sound was heard and sight spotted. Coming from the hills above the path flaming arrows could be seen beginning to rain down on the group. The first strike hit the wagon between Gwyn and Kenny. Gwyn reached for her waterskin and used it to douse the flames spreading from the projectile. A second sank in to the shielding of the wagon. Furion uised his hand axe to chop the bolt from its landing. A third landed in the wagon and was quickly snuffed by Ben with a blanket. As the arrows came down a new sound could be discerned. A heavy rumbling that reminded the group of a rolling catapult. A presumption confirmed when they caught sight of a large flaming ball arcing from the source of the sound.

The sphere crashed amid the group only mildly startling the horses, thankfully. As it crashed down a small group of rag tag dwarves rushed from a break in the hills. Spotting them, the group tried to pick up their pace to out race the intruders but the dwarves moved in to intercept and engage and the battle was on. Kenny spurred on the wagon horses using them to side swipe the enemy. The dwarves attacked. A few had poles they attempted to use to spike the wagon wheels, others attacked the nearest horse wounding it severely causing it to fall. As the wagon's momentum carried it forward it ran over the horse, killing it. There were others, including two dwarves covering the gang from the rear using crossbows. The first shot came in striking Rennala in the side of her head. One dwarf then managed to spike the rear wheel of the wagon causing Kenny to bring it to a halt.

The fight was now on. Tyrade scored the first big hit with a scorching arrow shot, knocking the dwarf from his feet. At the same time Jade fell victim to one of the crossbowmen as a bolt struck her in the jaw making it difficult for her to evoke spells requiring her to speak. And then Gwyn set off a Prayer spell covering most of the party (most notably except Rennala... because fuck her).

A dwarf had climbed in the back of the wagon only to find Ben and Furion ready to attack. And they did scoring the first kill. They pressed their position swinging down at another dwarf also attempting to climb in the wagon as Jack finished it off. Kenny evoked a Hold Person, getting 2 of his 3 targets. Morgana failed her cast of a Thunderclap. Jade began firing her bow, using a Rael's Enlarging arrow knocking down her target as Rennala and Tyrade combined their shots to kill another. Jade's second Rael's scored a critical hit, disabling the left foot of her target. Furion finished off another dwarf as Jade dispatched the last dwarf, finishing the encounter. Two of the dwarves were tied up and tossed in the wagon as captives.

They were now short one horse but Tyrade had an ace up his sleeve. He cast a Mount spell, evoking a draft horse to replace the lost one. They searched the bodies, finding a small amount of money but notably a magical axe, a jug of some sort and a map of the area. They gathered up the bodies as Gwyn issued them the last rites and used the body of the horse to mark where the encounter had occurred. With that, they turned back and headed for Oolm... again.

This visit was fruitful once again. The guards were ecstatic to receive the prisoners and even more so at the map they were presented. So much that a reward was given to the group for their efforts. They traversed in to town to find out what the magic items were and get a horse to replace their lost one. The Axe was magical but nothing extra special. The jug was an Alchemy jug which the group sold to the guild. Now each were several thousand gold richer from the windfalls. They crashed for the night and headed out bright and early the next day. Well... after a hearty dwarvish breakfast.

This time out the travel was speedy. Through the hills and out on to the Risen Plains. They spiked the spear flying the Seneca colors on the wagon and kept an eye out for the tribe. Three days out a sizable cloud of dust was spotted approaching. Not long after a few warriors approached on horse in a non threatening manner. The group stopped and met the warriors. Flying the colors was a smart choice as they were greeted in a friendly manner by the Seneca scouts and were invited to join the tribe who were setting up their camp. Their gifts were received with awe and astonishment. They could not believe the lost tribal members still survived after all these years, the legend and myth proved. Gwyn told to the story of their trip into the crevasse, through the caves, past the dinosaurs and in to the hidden valley. They thanked his efforts and asked how they could pay tribute to his god, joining him in a morning service and sacrifice. Ben's map was viewed with amazement. So much so he offered to make a unique and custom copy for the chief. A feast was held to honor the meeting. Rennala produced some special spices she had received from the hidden Senanaki tribe to use in the feast. The packets evoked special memories for the cooks, remembering long lost dishes. They used these spices to make the feast extra special. While Rennala's offer to give them the spices were declined by the cooks she gifted the remainder of her stash to the chief, who graciously accepted. For this she asked to trade with one of the tribe members for a tribal horse blanket, which they gladly did.

The next day they set off again, this time heading for the McMurtry Farm. A speedy and quiet 6 days of travel passed. During their evening meal the group was approached by members of the farm's outer patrol. They joined for the night, sharing information about their trip and their goal. The patrol members had heard nothing of the tribal skirmish rumored to be happening south of the farm. The next day they were off again. This time they headed for the western edge of the Forsaken Forest. They would use this to map the boundaries of the woods as they worked their way south. They traveled this way for two more days before they were set upon in the night.

In the early morning hours before sunrise a distinct rustling could be heard approaching. Kenny moved quickly to begin waking the group. Jade was the first and she moved to help waking people but she was the first target struck by an arrow, squarely in the back. Having been aroused, Gwyn charged forward to engage what they now saw were a large group of Gnolls. Jade responded with a Fireball, destroying 4 of the attackers. In return she received a shot that critically hit her leg. Morgana evoked an Entangle stopping 2 and slowing 4 more. Kenny added a group Bless (but, fuck Rennala, just because).

Jade cast a Shield to help protect herself as Tyrade began firing his bow, the first shots at point blank range. The Gnolls raced in engaging the group, Kenny took 2 hits. Morgana cast a Flame Blade spell to use as her attack weapon. Jade's next move was to quaff a healing potion to repair the critical wound. The battle now fully engaged began to turn in the favor of the party. There wer a lot of Gnolls but they were not a match for them. Tyrade began dropping targets with bow shots. Furion cut down others. Kenny used a Hold Person to freeze 2 of his 3 targets telling Ben to finish them off. A task he took great pleasure performing. Kenny followed up using a Spiritual Whip on what appeared to be the Gnoll leader, killing it with his second effort. Furion, Rennala, Jack and Tyrade all scored kills by various means. With the edge having turned Morgana dropped her Entangle to allow the group to assist Gwyn. More enemies dropped by Ben, Rennala and Furion and the numbers dwindled. Ranged kills were scored by Tyrade with a Magic Missile and Jade with more Rael's arrows. The last few were downed by a one shot from Furion, a massive maul strike by Gwyn and a mighty swipe from the sword of Jack.
